Emergency: National Association For Gun Rights

For the past several hours, I’ve been feverishly working Senate phone lines.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is preparing to break through Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster as early asWednesday afternoon, convinced pro-gun Republicans will run for the hills at the first sign of a fight.

Richard, without your IMMEDIATE action, I’m afraid he just may be right

That’s why it’s absolutely vital you sign your Emergency Fax Petition IMMEDIATELY

My staff has delivered 192,673 Emergency Fax Petitions to U.S. Senate offices in just the last 72 hours.

If you have already signed your petition, please forward the Emergency Fax Petition to everyone you know and ask them to take action.

You see, as of right now, one dozen Senators have pledged to join Senator Paul’s filibuster.

That means you and I need to pressure 28 other Senators to stave off Senate Majority Leader Reid’s scheme.

Other Senators are cowering in the shadows and riding the fence.

But there’s a handful who are conspiring to hand President Obama everything he wants.

In fact, the message Senator John McCain delivered yesterday on CBS’ Face the Nation was crystal clear to anyone listening, saying “I don’t understand” why Senator Paul was filibustering the motion to proceed to debate.

Richard, Senator McCain’s underlying message was as hard to miss as it was outrageous . . .

“Senate Republicans should trust President Obama and Harry Reid.”

Anyone with half a brain and a shred of concern for our Second Amendment rights should see why this would be a horrible strategy to allow Harry Reid to bring ANY gun bill to the floor.

In fact, just this past Friday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid laid his strategy bare in a radio interview on Nevada Public Radio, saying:
*** “We’re going to do something on background checks [NATIONAL GUN REGISTRATION].”
*** “We’re going to take a look at the size of clips or magazines.”
*** “And when it’s all over, we’re going to have votes on [the Feinstein Gun Ban].”
As I’ve warned you from the beginning, as soon as a gun bill reaches the floor for debate, Senate Majority Leader Reid will be free to horse-trade and deal with supposedly “pro-gun” Democrats vulnerable for reelection and weak-kneed Republicans to see just how much of President Obama’s anti-gun agenda they can ram into law.

The only thing stopping them until this point was convincing a well-known “pro-gun” conservative Republican to help them break Senator Paul’s filibuster

Knowing just how heated the gun issue is, many vulnerable Democrats were wary of “stepping out on the ledge” and having the gun issue spell their defeat in 2014.

The solution?

Being able to say such a scheme was “bipartisan” and “even pro-Second Amendment Republicans supported it.”

That’s why, for weeks, they’ve been shopping around a “compromise” to weak-kneed GOP Senators they think they can work with.

First it was Tom Coburn (R-OK). Then Chuck Grassley (IA).

Now Pat Toomey (R-PA) is in “talks” with Obama’s anti-gun Senate ringleader Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Richard, I haven’t heard any news of a smoky backroom deal being struck yet.

But Senator Reid’s decision to try and break through Senator Paul’s filibuster as soon as Wednesday makes me fear for the worst.

That’s why you and I have to turn up the heat IMMEDIATELY.

You see, this may be our last best chance to defeat the bill.

Already, GOP leaders in the House have passed three bills with majority Democrat support -- even when a majority of Republicans have opposed the bills.

Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor are keeping their mouths zipped, refusing to say whether or not they’ll do the same thing on guns.

Richard, you and I both know their silence means Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor are planning to betray Second Amendment supporters

I hate to be so cynical, but that is the ugly truth.

So please sign your Emergency Fax Petition IMMEDIATELY

And if you can, please forward this email to every pro-gun friend and family member you have.

Finally, if you possible can, won’t you please chip in just $10 or $20

Every dollar you give means I can turn up even more pressure on the Senate -- and hopefully smoke out any Senate Republican backstabber before the motion to proceed to any anti-gun scheme is voted on.

You and I can win this fight.

But only if we take action IMMEDIATELY.

So please sign your Emergency Fax Petition at once

There’s no time to waste.

Senate to Take Up Anti-Gun Legislation Soon!

The U.S. Senate has announced that anti-gun legislation will be heard on the floor next week.  While that could change at any time, right now it means that your Second Amendment freedoms are on the chopping block, and you need to take immediate action to save them.

Senators are scheduled to vote on a so-called "universal background check" bill being pushed by lifelong anti-gun zealot, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y).  Schumer's bill--S. 374, the "Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013"-- would criminalize virtually all private firearm sales, even temporary transfers, making you a criminal if you simply transfer a firearm to an aunt, uncle, cousin or lifelong friend without the federal government's approval.  Even worse, President Barack Obama's Justice Department says that Schumer's bill will only be effective if it's coupled with mandatory gun registration.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-Calif.) gun and magazine ban legislation (S. 150) will not be a part of the Senate's base gun control bill, but the Senate previously announced that Feinstein will be allowed to offer her legislation as an amendment.

Feinstein's legislation, which proposes to ban nearly every semi-automatic shotgun and detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifle, several other categories of firearms, and any ammunition magazine holding 11 or more rounds, will not be included in the Senate's gun control bill at the outset, out of concern that it would decrease the chance of Schumer's legislation being approved.

Don't be fooled.  This legislation isn't about making Americans safer; it's about forwarding an anti-gun agenda that seeks to restrict firearm ownership in America--as much as they can, however they can, and as soon as they can.

Please act now!  Call both of your U.S. Senators TODAY and tell them to vote "NO" on Schumer's "universal background check" bill.  To identify and contact your legislators in Washington, D.C., you can use the "Write Your Reps" feature at www.NRAILA.org, or you can reach your member of Congress by phone at 202-224-3121.

The gun control dust up has awakened tens of thousands of formerly politically dormant Nutmeggers. Many people are surely riled-up but are unsure of what to do or where to go for help. If you know some, tell them about CCDLhttp://www.ccdl.us/ Tell them about the Ct Restoration Coalition as a conduit for finding answers. http://ct-rc.org/

A slew of people have already announced their intentions of challenging incumbent legislators in 2014. We’re forming committees of volunteers in each of the 36 state senate districts. You can become part of this process,. You can find candidates, recruit them and help all along the way. And the vetting will be your job.

So if you haven’t yet replied to our request to identify your state senator please help us complete the lists. Several are in excess of 30 already. Our goal is to acquire at least 50 volunteers in each district. These grass roots congregations will then either bypass or affirm the establishment candidates. Strength is in numbers. If you’re tired of playing 2nd fiddle to the usual way of doing things, you have an opportunity and a duty to do better.

Our goal is noble. We work to flip the General Assembly. Replace the liberals from both parties with decent conservatives chosen from WE THE PEOPLE. We saw many of our future candidates at the hearings last month.

2013 is a municipal election year. Seriously consider stepping up to run in your local races. Planning and Zoning, Boards of Ed. and Finance, etc. That’s the place to start. We’ve been observers too long. We MUST be participants! There is no alternative.

It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds. (Samuel Adams)

Killer Cops: The Judge Dredd Syndrome of Being Judge, Jury, and Executioner!

Recently there has been a trend among police officers in major metropolitan areas and that trend is killing people. When I was a kid in the late 1970s, the police officer in your area was your best friend. He helps you when you needed help and it seemed like he was always there when you needed him. He will come to your local baseball games, football games, and high school events. The one thing he was he was always there. This is when serve and protect meant something. The police officer had to read you your Miranda rights have sufficient evidence to arrest you and they for sure what not shoot first and ask questions later.

Less lethal doesn’t mean they can’t kill you. Tasers have been around for a while and the police officers have to be instructed on how to use them. I know if the situation was different later a person was driving down methamphetamines or drugged out, it would take more than just one Taser bring somebody. But I seen a recent trend in police officer’s behavior, it has changed from “to protect and serve” to “arrest and imprison.” I know a lot of people read this blog but this is just my opinion. Police officers are trained to deal with people with psychological disorders, if they run into a person with a psychological disorder they usually just tase them or if they have weapon just shoot them. Police officers even when they go after a suspect as in the case of Christopher Dorner, police officers with see a suspect vehicle and tried to stop them; if they didn’t stop the police officer would shoot. This happened on two occasions when the police officers saw a suspect in vehicle without going through procedure and just shooting the occupants of the vehicles. I have heard of another case, where the police had a suspect in custody, by that I mean that a suspect with handcuffed in the back of a police car. The police officer who shot this man said he had a gun, but they could not find one in the area. The suspect was shot dead and no retaliation of substance against the police officer was taken by the city’s administration. I feel the reason for a police officer’s total disregard of public safety and situational awareness is grounds for dismissal, but the police officers union doesn’t see it that way. As long as a police officer is saying that he is in fear of his life, the shooting was justified.

Police unions are not helping the situation when it comes to excessive force. Now a citizen’s definition of excessive force or when the times that legal force is needed from a police officer. First let’s look at the police officers equipment: bulletproof vest, usually 9 mm handgun semiautomatic with a 14 round clip at least, 2 to 3 extra 14 round clips, hand cuffs, Taser with a couple recharges, mag-light, baton, and the rest of the police officers on the shift. Oh I forgot to mention the police car with an AR 15 in the back trunk with full automatic with several 30 round clips in the trunk. Now if I was a police officer, I think that would be enough armament and body armor to feel somewhat safe. There also are procedural things a police officer can do to maintain the safety. The Metropolitan Police Departments recruit a different breed of police officer today. I heard of police officers taking steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. Police officers are angry, hateful, and downright despicable. This is the reason why people are so afraid of the police today. They act like; they are Judge, jury, and executioner. I call this a psychological disorder called the “Judge Dredd syndrome.” Now I’m not a psychologist but I think that if you could have a psychological disorder for believing in the Constitution and liberty, which is a political stance on psychology, a soft science, then I can say the same about police officers, the TSA, the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and any other government enforcement agency.

I’m angry at the simple fact that the Constitution is continuously violated by the same people that are supposed to uphold it. I’m not saying all police officers suffer with this psychological disorder, Judge Dredd syndrome or JDS. Law enforcement officers in small towns and communities, a lot of County Sheriff’s are standing up against those that want to oppress us so stand up with them.

The Sky is Falling said Chicken Little, Is it True or Conspiracy?

We keep hearing that the sky is falling, the  sky falling. What I mean by that is that there are so many people out there that are saying that they are economy is collapsing and that there’s going to be martial law declared in the United States.  Meanwhile Congress and state legislatures are looking to disarm the American public, law-abiding citizens that really haven’t done anything wrong,  just because of the type of weapon they own, an AR 15 is not an assault weapon assault weapon is one has full automatic for burst capabilities. They keep wanting to change the definition of an assault weapon assault weapon is anything that has offensive capabilities and full automatic capabilities. A semiautomatic weapon is not an offense of weapon because you pull one trigger one-shot fires and that is it, you have to pull the trigger again to fire another semiautomatics especially an AR 15 is a very good domestic and home protection weapon is very easily handle, women don’t have a problem using it once they are trained on it. When I have a hard time controlling a shotgun especially if it’s a shotgun slug  and its pressure is all the way up. If a woman is going to buy a shotgun, she should keep in mind amount of that kick or recoil the weapon has and take that into consideration.
The discussion of what weapons Americans can own and cannot own or capacity of the magazine and is being debated in state legislatures and Congress. Gun sales and ammunition sales have gone through the roof and so have their prices. Getting so expensive to buy ammunition the government may get their wish that maybe it the American public has the guns but doesn’t have the ammunition to fire those guns.
As far as the collapsing of the economy, you need to pay attention to how many dollars by a barrel of oil. As the dollar devaluates it takes more dollars to buy a barrel of oil. And this is away can really calibrate the value of a dollar. You really can’t get a good feel of the dollar from comparing it to other foreign currencies like the British pound or the Japanese yen because most of these currencies are also losing their buying power. Since the establishment of the Federal Reserve, the daughter has lost 90% of its value since 1913. The Chinese yuan and the Russian ruble are actually start to take over as the reserve currencies because they are based on a gold standard now and many other countries are buying a lot of goals also especially Saudi Arabia which has now almost 400 tons of gold. This is because they see the collapse of the dollar romances that most Americans don’t see the collapse of the dollar as their comparing it to the stock market which has been artificially inflated by the United States Federal Reserve printing out money to keep the stock market relatively stable this was called quantitative easing. As soon as the Fed stops printing money you will see a sudden drop in the stock market. People like, Celente say that the stock market is over inflated that the actual words of the stock market is only between 20 and 30% of the dollar amount, because of the persistent printing of money. Our founding fathers thought that the central bank would be the downfall of the Republic, because one institution in charge of monetary policy for the country would be too much power.

As far as the country declaring martial law, we are seeing a soft version of martial law as of right now increased police presence on highways and in urban areas. As far as the department of homeland security their so-called viper teams I haven’t seen any of those. But if you look at Mayor Bloomberg and New York City which seems to be a testing ground for a totalitarian government banning 2 L bottles of soda, 1 L bottles of soda, 32 ounce cups or higher of soda, this guy really hates fricken soda. I think this is Mayor Bloomberg’s way of pushing the American people especially, New Yorkers to the brink of rebellion, because they will get tired of it. They already have metal detectors or screening devices on the streets of New York in certain areas where people have to walk through and be scanned as if they were going to court or any secured area. They also have a policy of stop and frisk which is a total invasion of privacy and our fourth amendment rights as American citizens.
Barack Obama, also considered the Blamer-in-chief, has cited bill that limits free speech, and freedom of assembly to redress grievances against the government, known as free speech zones. I think cities in the United States have been doing a limited breach of the First Amendment for a long time, by requiring permits to assemble, protests, and redress grievances from our government officials. You cannot protest or assemble by elected officials office, who we elected and pay for with our tax dollars, who doesn’t really represent “We the People.” These government officials represent those people or corporations that have contributed the most amount of money to their campaign for reelection or election. This means that we are now a corporatocracy. Our elected officials represent banks, corporations, large businesses and a very very rich. Which maybe a drawback of being a Republic, because even in Rome when it was a Republic the Senators accumulated so much power by contributions by other rich merchants and the Republic that the people went hungry and homeless. This brought on Julius Caesar, who was a soldier and a commander who do people to look up to as a hero and a leader. The problem was the issues of the people were never really address the hunger and homelessness continued.
Many people don’t realize that Obama was the one that came up with the sequester in 2009, but as a result of his $1 trillion over budget deficit our debt continue to grow while Pres. Obama thought he had a blank check. During his first four years, doubled the number of people on food stamps and increased on the number of people collecting Social Security. That is not to mention, that Pres. Obama also did away with the work requirement for food stamps. He also made loans and grants more available to college students, who cannot get jobs in their areas because of the unemployment and a lack of real jobs market. So this outstanding student loan debt is not being paid back which only adds to the deficit you have more. There are some speculations on how much debt the United States actually happens, some economists have said that are actual deficit to gross national product is almost 500%. I do understand that Pres. Obama had to raise taxes on everybody across the board but there are too many billionaires that are exempt from taxes. He also said that he will only tax people that had $250,000 in income a year, but like most of his promises the also can’t tax the lower income people to the point that it is going to kill our economy. Pres. Obama blames the sequester on the Republicans when is the responsibility of the executive branch to come up with a balanced budget which she has not done in four years. So the only response to this emergency of the debt crisis is sequestration. The biggest areas that are being affected by the sequestration is the Department of Defense and their subcontractors, which means the loss of many more jobs so more people will be collecting unemployment. But the major issue that I is that the sequestration will have little effect on the Department of Homeland Security because the secretary of Homeland security will allow any cuts to be made in her programs.

What does this mean for common American? Well first start, the US dollar will start losing its buying power which means gas, food even water will become more more expensive. This may result in food riots in major metropolitan areas, because most supermarkets only carry three days worth of food in their stocks. As gasoline gets the point to where the trucks can’t transport the food into an urban area, people start starving and they will get more violent in order to survive. So if you live in an urban area, make sure you have either a bug out plan or a bug in plan. There will be people going from apartment to apartment and house to house trying to find to food, and sooner or later they will come to your apartment or house and what are you going to do. If the government continues to try to disarm the American public, we will be defenseless against these roving gangs of people looking for food and water and maybe even guns. If you think you’re not at risk, think again. The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Be prepared!

Subject: DO YOU HAVE A GUN IN THE HOUSE?

Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2013 19:08:00 -0700
Do you have a gun in the house?
GOOD TO KNOW!

When I had my gangrene gallbladder taken out and spent 10 days in the hospital for what should have been an overnight stay the insurance company kicked me out. I had home nurse visits for two weeks and was asked if I had guns in the house. I respond that if I did I would not tell them. So the below has some merit.

FYI, I am passing this along... there are comments from two other people I have also been asked if we keep guns in the house. The nurse just kinda slipped it in along with all the other regular questions. I told her I refused to answer because it was against the law to ask.

Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so they have no idea who does and who doesn't. My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded. I, of course, answered yes to both questions. Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed. I answered that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and also works for Homeland Security, advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection against criminal attack.

The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare, and probably everyone else.

Just passing this along for your information: I had to visit a doctor other than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation.. One of the questions on the form I had to fill out was: Do you have any guns in your house?? My answer was None of your damn business!!

So it is out there! It is either an insurance issue or government intervention. Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets into your medical records (as they want to under Obamacare) it will become a major issue and will ultimately result in lock and load!!

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners... Thanks, from a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer: I had a doctor's appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along. While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions: 1. Did I feel stressed? 2. Did I feel threatened? 3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?

The nurse then informed me that if I had answered yes to any of the questions I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

Looks like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then when they go after the civilians, what argument will they have? Be forewarned and be aware. The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists.
Whether you are a gun owner, veteran or not, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !

If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very cautious about what you say and to whom.

They are coming for us, so unless you're an ostrich, do not stick your head in the sand......

Wired: Constitution-Free Zone Upheld – Do You Live In A Place Where You Are No Longer Free?

According to this breaking story from Wired, the Department of Homeland Security's 'Watchdog' has given the OK for the 'suspicionless' seizure of electronic devices along the borders of America. According to the map below from the ACLU, this includes a 100 mile perimeter along the entire border of the United States of America. First, read this from Wired then take a look at the ACLU map below. Are you living in the 'no longer free' zone? If so, join the crowd. Hundreds of millions of Americans, 2 out of every 3 of us, live within this new 'Constitution-free' zone where our 4th Amendment no longer applies. This includes most people living along both the East and West coasts of the country, the entire states of Florida, Michigan and Hawaii and most of the states of California, New York, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Louisiana and more. Much more.:

The Department of Homeland Security’s civil rights watchdog has concluded that travelers along the nation’s borders may have their electronics seized and the contents of those devices examined for any reason whatsoever — all in the name of national security.

The DHS, which secures the nation’s border, in 2009 announced that it would conduct a “Civil Liberties Impact Assessment” of its suspicionless search-and-seizure policy pertaining to electronic devices “within 120 days.” More than three years later, the DHS office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties published a two-page executive summary of its findings.

“We also conclude that imposing a requirement that officers have reasonable suspicion in order to conduct a border search of an electronic device would be operationally harmful without concomitant civil rights/civil liberties benefits,” the executive summary said

Comments from the story on Wired obviously express what most Americans who give a damn and are at least half 'awake' are thinking:

Tom Berry • a day ago

  • Its one thing to be searched crossing the border. Its another to claim a 100 mile "Fourth Amendment Exclusion Zone" My answer is to simply refuse to hand over electronics unless they have a warrant and be sure to record the incident if possible. I never imagined when I was 20 years old that in 30 years the United States would be sliding toward a Orwellian quasi- totalitarian state.

  • S. Mays  Tom Berry • a day ago

    • Sad thing is, 99% of America couldn't care less. The terrorists won, and our government gained everything they could ever wish for, and more.

Even though the video below from Russia Today is from 2011, it has become even more relevant today considering the recent ruling by the DHS watchdog reported in the Wired story linked above. So, my question to you is, what are you going to do when the TSA or DHS comes to inspect your I-phone on your next trip to Starbucks for Java? Have we all just become prisoners in our own country, a country now ruled by 'terrorists'?

Armed Guard Stops School Shooter After He Opened Fire at Atlanta Middle School

ATLANTA (AP) — A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said.
Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown about 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. In the aftermath, a teacher received minor cuts, he said.
The wounded boy was taken “alert, conscious and breathing” to Grady Memorial Hospital, said police spokesman Carlos Campos. Grady Heath System Spokeswoman Denise Simpson said the teen had been discharged from the hospital Thursday night. Campos said charges against the shooter were pending.
Police swarmed the school of about 400 students after reports of the shooting while a crowd of anxious parents gathered in the streets, awaiting word on their children. Students were kept at the locked-down school for more than two hours before being dismissed.
Investigators believe the shooting was not random and that something occurred between the two students that may have led to it.
Schools Superintendent Erroll Davis said the school does have metal detectors.
“The obvious question is how did this get past a metal detector?” Davis asked about the gun. “That’s something we do not know yet.”
The armed resource officer who took the gun away was off-duty and at the school, but police didn’t release details on him or whether he is regularly at Price. Since 20 children and six adults were shot to death at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in December, calls for armed officers in every school have resonated across the country.

Hours after the Atlanta shooting, several school buses loaded with children pulled away from the school and stopped in front of a church about a half-block away. Parents tried boarding the buses. Police who initially tried to stop the parents, relented and screamed, “Let them off!” about the students.

James Bolton was at work when his sister called saying a teen had been shot at his son’s school and was in the crowd as parents began swarming the fleet of buses.
“Move, I see my son, I see mine!” he said, running up to embrace James Bolton Jr. “As long as I got this one back I’m OK,” he said, holding his son’s head against his chest as parents nearby frantically searched for their children.
Bolton Jr. said he was in class when the intercom sounded and a school official announced the building was under immediate lockdown.
“They told us we had to be quiet,” Bolton told The Associated Press. “They said something went on in the courtyard.” Bolton said he was unaware that anyone had been shot until a reporter asked him about it.
Shakita Walker, whose daughter is an eighth-grader at the school, said she received a text from her that said, “Ma somebody’s shooting and somebody got shot.” Walker, who works at another school, said she jumped in her car and was thinking “just hurry up and get there.”
Walker said her daughter called to tell her that they were being kept in the gymnasium, but she said she was anxious to see her to make sure she was OK.
The fear and anxiety was palpable in the crowd, as one person yelled, “Does anyone know what happened?”
Superintendent Davis sympathized with concerned parents who complained that it took too long for students to be released from the building. He said emergency procedures were followed according to protocol and school district officials would meet Friday to review their response. Calls to the school district were not immediately returned.
Mayor Kasim Reed condemned gun violence in a statement shortly after the shooting and said counselors were at the school to meet with students, faculty and family members.
“Gun violence in and around our schools is simply unconscionable and must end,” Reed said. “Too many young people are being harmed, and too many families are suffering from unimaginable and unnecessary grief.”
Outside the school, Laquanda Pittman said she still hasn’t heard from her sixth-grade son. She said she heard the news of the shooting on TV and immediately came to the school.
“All types of stuff went through my head. I’m wondering whether it was my child who got shot, is my child OK, did he see what happened?” Pittman said.
She said she just wants to see her son.
“As a parent, you just think you can send your child to school and you hope they come home OK,” she said.

Gun Control Advocates Need to Listen to Gun Owners, Obama Says

WASHINGTON – President Obama said that he and his guests go skeet shooting at Camp David “all the time” and that gun control advocates need “to do a little more listening” to understand why so many Americans are wary of government limits on firearms.
In an interview released Sunday morning, Mr. Obama acknowledged that getting his package of gun proposals through Congress could be tough, and he expressed empathy for the strong sentiments of gun owners. Like Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., who has mentioned that he owns two shotguns, Mr. Obama tried to associate himself with those who enjoy firing guns.
“Up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time,” he told The New Republic in the interview, conducted Jan. 16, just after he unveiled his gun proposals.
Asked about his family, he said, “Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there. And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake.”
He added that the experience with guns in rural America differed dramatically from that in urban America. “If you grew up and your dad gave you a hunting rifle when you were 10, and you went out and spent the day with him and your uncles, and that became part of your family’s traditions, you can see why you’d be pretty protective of that,” he said.
“So it’s trying to bridge those gaps that I think is going to be part of the biggest task over the next several months,” he added. “And that means that advocates of gun control have to do a little more listening than they do sometimes.”
Mr. Obama has proposed reinstating and strengthening an expired ban on new assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, expanding criminal background checks for nearly all gun sales except those within families, and cracking down on straw purchasers who buy firearms for others who would not be able to pass a background check. He also used his executive authority to try to improve the background check database and to revive government research into gun violence.
In the interview, Mr. Obama also expressed concern for the state of football in America, particularly at the college level, where there is no union to represent the interests of players.
“I’m a big football fan,” he said, “but I have to tell you, if I had a son, I’d have to think long and hard before I let him play football. And I think those of us who love the sport are going to have to wrestle with the fact that it will probably change gradually to reduce some of the violence.”
Asked about the continuing rebellion in Syria that has led to tens of thousands of deaths, Mr. Obama made clear that he has declined to intervene because he is haunted by a series of questions that he cannot answer satisfactorily.
“In a situation like Syria,” he said, “I have to ask, can we make a difference in that situation? Would a military intervention have an impact? How would it affect our ability to support troops who are still in Afghanistan? What would be the aftermath of our involvement on the ground? Could it trigger even worse violence or the use of chemical weapons? What offers the best prospect of a stable post-Assad regime? And how do I weigh tens of thousands who’ve been killed in Syria versus the tens of thousands who are currently being killed in the Congo?”
The interview was conducted by Chris Hughes, a founder of Facebook who bought The New Republic last year, and Franklin Foer, the magazine’s editor. Mr. Hughes was coordinator of online organizing for Mr. Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and has contributed money to him since then. The president gave the interview as the magazine is reintroducing itself in the coming days.

Beware gun registration – It's coming Exclusive: Patrice Lewis warns of impending national registry system for all firearms

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.” – Unknown
In the spirit of never letting a crisis go to waste, President Obama recently issued 23 new executive orders on the subject of gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings. “Liberals have an uncanny knack for designing solutions that do not address the problem at hand,” noted David Limbaugh. And as William S. Burrough famously said, “After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it.”
Controlling firearms, you see, is deemed necessary by progressives to achieve some sort of nebulous theoretical bucolic pacifistic utopia that has literally never occurred on the face of the earth. Their actions prove they’re attempting to take the closest approximation of that utopia that has ever existed (America) and replacing it with their simplistic notions of what America should be (by violating every principle in the Bill of Rights, which they’ve never like anyway).
Obama’s executive orders lay the groundwork for the next inevitable step toward that mythical utopian fantasy: a national registry system for all firearms (H.R. 34, H.R. 117). Gun registration, they argue, is necessary because we have to know what kind of unstable people might possess firearms and thus become the next Adam Lanza.
So let’s engage in a mental exercise and pretend the government has already passed an edict requiring all guns to be registered, no exceptions. Naturally this is done in the name of public safety – “for the children,” if you will.
OK, so now all guns are registered. Now what? What has that achieved? How would registration change anything? How would it make gun-free zones like schools any safer?
Answer: It won’t. Think about it. Gun registration contributes nothing toward a safer society. Nothing. There is no value in registration unless you intend to do something with it.
In his sobering 2003 essay, Robert A. Waters briefly relates the history of gun control in England and concludes with these eerie words: “When the Dunblane Inquiry ended [in 1997], citizens who owned handguns were given three months to turn them over to local authorities. Being good British subjects, most people obeyed the law. The few who didn’t were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn’t comply. Police later bragged that they’d taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens. How did the authorities know who had handguns? The guns had been registered and licensed. Kinda like cars.” [Emphasis added.]
This, folks, is the inevitable path gun confiscation follows. Register guns, and confiscation is the logical next step. Ah – but confiscation will only happen among the law-abiding, because criminals will never register their firearms in the first place. So where does that leave moms trying to protect their children from intruders? Dead. Because make no mistake: home invasions and other violent crimes invariably skyrocket when firearms are removed from the hands of citizens.
Our federal government is setting up the framework for our total disarmament. Oh not right away, of course. There’s still too much opposition by people who know their history and their rights. But over the next 10 or 20 years, federally funded public schools will continue to brainwash children about the evils of gun ownership. These children will grow up ignorant of their heritage and will be taught to despise their parents and grandparents, who know precisely why the Second Amendment is so important. Within a generation or two, our nation will be as emasculated as England is now – a place where violent crime has gone through the roof, people are locked away for defending themselves from thugs and where even knives are being banned.
And then the door will be opened for the rest of our rights to be dismantled. It’s well-known and well-documented that gun control doesn’t control crime. Why, then, is the government eager to control guns if it knows crime will escalate as a result? Easy. The government doesn’t give a rip for crime control. It wants citizen control. Remember, once we lose the Second Amendment, the rest of the Bill of Rights is meaningless. We the People will have no means to protect it.
When the progressives cheer additional gun-control measures, such as limiting magazine size, they argue that no one needs magazines holding more than 10 rounds for home defense or for hunting. But that argument (right or wrong) totally and entirely misses the point of the Second Amendment. Do you honestly think deer hunting or home invasions were on the minds of the Founding Fathers when they composed the Second Amendment? Or perhaps – just perhaps – fresh from the hideous tyranny of George III, they wanted to make sure their infant nation would never face a similarly abusive government? These men knew that the people of America had a natural right to arm themselves with whatever powerful firearms were necessary to ensure a home-grown tyrant never arose on our soil.
Believe me, when the Department of Homeland Security buys up 1.5 billion rounds of hollow-point ammunition, citizens need something a little better than a steak knife for defense. If our government ever decides to move en masse against innocent citizens, it must know there will be a rifle behind every blade of grass.
Did you know that worldwide, the leading cause of unnatural human death is government? Democide is defined as “the murder of any person or people by a government, including genocide, politicide and mass murder. Democide is not necessarily the elimination of entire cultural groups but rather groups within the country that the government feels need to be eradicated for political reasons and due to claimed future threats” (emphasis added).
The only purpose of gun registration is to let the government know who has guns – so they can be taken away. Remember that. Gun confiscation is historically followed by democide against the disarmed; this is an undeniable historical fact.
I applaud the recent massive attendance of every gun show in the nation, which is putting millions of firearms into the hands of decent law-abiding people. It demonstrates that American citizens are intelligent enough to know that the government is taking advantage of a crisis to increase its tyrannical and unconstitutional powers.
Gun registration: It’s coming. Be warned. Be ready.
